Norwegian browser vendor, Opera, has just dropped their option on the Lars Boilesen as the new Opera’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), succeeding to the throne Jon von Tetzchner.

Boilesen who previously worked as Opera’s Chief Commercial Officer started taking the role as CEO earlier this week. Predecessor, Tetzchner, said that he had handed over the job to Boilesen and believe that his leadership will be followed even better by him.
“The important thing is, we have a regeneration. Boilesen comes to the Opera’s board last year, and his smart ideas are potential to take the CEO position. I really know him, he is a person that deserves with this position,” Tetzchner said, as quoted by ZDNet

Boilesen recorded has been in the world of sales and business development for 20 years. He had been a senior at various technology companies, including TANDBERG Data and Lego.

In the period 2000 to 2005, Opera trusted Boilesen as Vice President of Sales and Marketing Opera and became an important part of the company. But then in 2005, he had left the Opera and became CEO of Alcatel-Lucent in the Baltic region, before finally returning to Opera last year.

While Tetzchner who has worked for Opera for 15 years, still will stay at the Opera but with different positions, an advisory firm.

“You can call me an adviser and we will continue to cooperate. Opera is like my baby and I still want to see it grow big and successful,” said Tetzchner.
